Kiosk app could not be downloaded
I am in the same boat you are. I gave porteus a shot and I tried sanickiosk as well but have not figured out how to set either one up so that it boots directly to the browser AND does not allow any browsing besides our online card catalog website. So far I think sanickiosk has come the closest but I just do not know enough about it to get it set correctly. Then I would need to write a "How I did it" kind of document. I wish somebody had one written already.
I'm not familiar with Sanickiosk, but Porteus-kiosk does have the ability to whitelist and blacklist websites and just hide the address bar so no urls can be typed in. The wizard for the kiosk build You are using the kiosk-only build, not the full Porteus load?
I've found that it sometimes has trouble connecting to internal intranet-only type sites I think there's some logic built in to check availability of the site that bombs before it will load Firefox , but I've been able to get around that by setting the homepage to one of those goo. If you let me know what trouble you're having with Porteus-Kiosk, I can probably help you out Hello, nope I'm still looking into this.
The only two Kiosk apps I know of on the Google Chrome App Marketplace lock the screen to a single website and you can't transition in between two websites even though they are on the same domain. Who knew this whole thing would be so complicated? I still prefer the chromeboxes because they are so cheap, and the PACs just sit there and don't do much, it doesn't make sense to pour a whole lot of money into them.
There are a number of threads about Kiosk software options, if you want to see what is out there. Hi all, so I'm trying out Porteus Kiosk as Chip suggested and so far the setup has been incredibly intuitive.
Since I don't have a spare PC at the moment I've set up a virtual machine for testing. It seems to be working great! I noticed it uses Firefox, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but that is the web browser that our vendor states our two PAC webpages work best in I've loaded it in Chrome dozens of times with no issues, but whatever, should make them happy.
I felt like this project was going to turn into my "white whale", but the Porteus Kiosk suggestion has so far been excellent! I think this is the best solution by far for something as simple as what we need. The only problem is, now I have to re-evaluate my expenses for the PAC replacements. I'll go ahead and credit Chip with the solution but I'd love to keep this conversation going! Not at all familiar with Chromeboxes Well, why not, the Chromebox is already open so my options of returning it are sparse, I'll give it a shot and let you know how it turns out.
This is fantastic, again I really appreciate your suggestion, Chip! Thanks for he porteus information. Available to United States residents.
